Description
Description
Help children build confidence with fractions through hands-on, visual learning with this Fraction Wall and Conversion Tray set. By physically comparing and combining fraction pieces, children can explore equivalent fractions, compare sizes, and develop a deeper understanding of how fractions relate to one another, decimals and percentages. This tactile approach makes abstract fraction concepts easier to understand and more engaging to learn. Perfect for homeschool families, classroom math centres, and Montessori-inspired learning environments.
Commonly used from Grade 3 to Grade 4 (Ages 8 to 9+) but adaptable depending on learning level
What’s included:
-1 Set of the Fraction Wall Tray with all fractions from 1 to 1/10 (total 55 pieces)
-1 Decimal Conversion Tray
-1 Fraction Conversation Tray
-1 Percent Conversion Tray
What the Child will learn:
🍕 Understanding fractions as parts of a whole
Children develop a strong foundation by seeing how fractions divide a whole into parts.
⚖️ Comparing fractions
Visually compare fraction sizes to determine which fractions are larger, smaller, or equal.
🧮 Equivalent fractions
Discover how different fractions can represent the same amount, such as 1/2 and 2/4.
🔄 Fractions, decimals, and percentages relationships
Build early understanding of how fractions connect to decimals and percentages, helping children see that these are different ways of representing the same value.
🧠 Problem-solving and mathematical reasoning
Encourages exploration, pattern recognition, and deeper mathematical thinking.
👁️ Visual math understanding
Transforms abstract fraction concepts into concrete experiences children can see and manipulate.
✍️Concentration and Focus
Encourage sustained screen free attention and perseverance

How to Play
How to Play
1. Build the Fraction Wall
Start with the large square tray. Place the single "1" bar at the top to represent a whole. Below it, stack the smaller bars (halves, thirds, quarters, etc.) to see how many of each are needed to equal that single top bar (with 1/10 bars at the bottom)
2. Discover Equivalencies
Use the wall to find "matches." For example, place two 1/4 bars next to a 1/2 bar. Since they are the same length, the student can visually see that 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2.
3. Use the Conversion Trays
Select a fraction bar from the wall (e.g., 1/10) and place it into the slot of one of the three conversion trays:
Fraction Conversion Tray: Shows the fraction equivalent of that bar(s).
Decimal Conversion Tray: Use this to see that 1/10 is the same as 0.1.
Percentage Conversion Tray: Use this to see that 1/10 is the same as 10%.
Have the child place multiple pieces of the same bar to see that 2 1/5 bars are equivalent to 20%, 0.2, 2/5)
4. Compare across Trays
For a deep dive, line up the three conversion trays vertically. Place identical bars (like 1/5) into each. This allows the student or child to look down and see that 1/5, 0.2, and 20% are all different names for the exact same "slice" of a whole.
5. Mix and Match Comparisons
Challenge the student or child to find which is larger by placing different bars in a tray. Is 2/10 larger or smaller than 1/3? Does the 1/3 bar reach further than the 2 1/10 bars? (Yes, because 1/3 is roughly 33.3% while 2/10 is equivalent to 20%). This can done using multiple and different trays.
Suggested Learning Activities:
The "Whole" Race: Give your students or child a specific tray and see how many different combinations of bars they can use to reach the 100% or 1.0 mark. (ex: 1 x 1/4 bar, 2 x 1/8 bars, 3 x 1/6 bars)
The "Parts" Race: Call out a percent or decimal (eg. 0.75 or 75%), and see how fast your students or child can use a combination of bars to reach that spot on the tray. In this case 3 x 1/4 bars, or 1 x 1/2 bar and 1 x 1/4 bar.
The "Secret Identity" Game: Place a bar face-down in the Percent Tray (e.g., at the 25% mark). Ask your student or child to guess which fraction bars will fit perfectly in that spot (the 1/4 piece). This can be translated across the different trays.
Translation Game: Call out a decimal (like 0.5), or percent (like 50%) and have your student or child find the physical fraction bar that fits perfectly into that spot on the appropriate tray.
